How New Beginnings Blossomed Into Lasting Connections: Nick's Story
Nick is best described as a mild-mannered young man who loves his family and friends, traveling, and dancing to his favorite music. Nick, who has Down syndrome and asthma, began attending ECC in 2018. When Nick’s previous after-care center closed suddenly, Nick's mother Vickie remembered ECC. From the moment she met with Social Services Coordinator Joi Rachmann, she knew it was the right place for Nick.
Since joining ECC, Nick’s independence has blossomed. He is enrolled in the ECC Life program, and he looks forward to working with Chef Brian each day. Nick never misses the ECC Coffee Shop Wednesdays with Mr. Ozzie.
Nick has built a wonderful circle of friends at ECC. He and his friends get together outside school, participating in activities like Special Pop Tennis, baseball, and prom dances.
To Vickie, ECC feels like family, and the friendships and connections she has made are truly special. “We have made lifelong friendships at ECC. I have made or deepened connections with several parents and feel that we look out for each other and the wellness of our young adults,” said Vickie.
Vickie and Nick have a special bond with ECC. “We love our community of teachers, administrators, peers, parents, and the warm caring feelings at ECC,” said Vickie.
