ECC Life was developed to serve students and young adults ages 18 to 25. It is a critical component for growth becase as adults t the community is where they will use the skills acquired from school. The expectation is that our students will live, work, shop, play and socialize in integrated environments participating either independently or with accommodations.
Community-Based Instruction (CBI) is designed to increase independence and social interactions. It is collaborative effort on the part of the students, educators and family (parental and guardian input is critical).
Aligning Personal Education Plan (PEP) Objectives
CBI integrates the students' needs as stated on the PEP, the appropriate learning domains, life skills and the family's priorities.
Community: pedestrian safety, banking and money management, making purchases, etc.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills: greetings, personal space, impulse control, etc.
Recreation & Leisure: social skills in group activities, accessing preferred activities, etc.
Personal Management: making grocery lists, shopping, hygiene, laundry needs, etc.
Career & Vocational: identifying interests, meaningful job sites and activities, etc.
